Raptors Come Up Short Against Indian Hills CC
Daytona Beach, FL — The Montgomery College Raptors were unable to carry over the momentum from their opening-game upset, falling 5–1 to the #8-seeded Indian Hills Community College Warriors on Monday in Pool A action at the NJCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship.
Indian Hills struck early and often, placing the Raptors under immediate pressure and building a 4–1 lead by halftime. Montgomery College battled throughout the second half but could not overcome the deficit, conceding one additional goal as the Warriors secured the victory.
First Half: Early Goals Put Raptors on Their Heels
Despite entering the match with confidence after Sunday's 1–0 win over top-seeded Tyler Junior College, the Raptors found themselves defending for much of the opening 45 minutes. Indian Hills capitalized on quick transitions and clinical finishing, scoring four times before the break.
Montgomery College's lone goal of the match came from standout forward Marcelo Martinez-Herrero, who continued his strong tournament play. Martinez-Herrero converted in the first half after applying sustained pressure in the attacking third, closing the gap to 3–1 before Indian Hills restored their two-goal advantage moments later.
Second Half: Raptors Settle but Can't Break Through Again
The Raptors tightened defensively after halftime, limiting Indian Hills to just one second-half goal. Midfielders Ethan Goldstone, Jacob Escobar, and Bente Bruns worked to stabilize possession, while defenders Owen Laborde and Oscar Alvarado-Celis logged full 90-minute shifts trying to slow the Warriors' attack.
Montgomery College generated a handful of promising opportunities—most notably through Martinez-Herrero and Alvarado-Celis—but could not find a second goal to spark a comeback.
