Raptors Claim District Title, Advance to Nationals
The Montgomery College Raptors are officially the 2025 NJCAA Mid-Atlantic DI District Champions after delivering a dominant 3–0 road victory over Monroe Community College today. With the win, the Raptors secure their place in the NJCAA National Tournament, continuing what has been one of the program's strongest postseason runs in recent years.
Montgomery College entered the match with confidence after claiming the Region 20 title, and that momentum carried directly into their District Championship performance. Despite a tightly contested first half where both sides tested each other defensively, the Raptors' structure, discipline, and depth ultimately proved too much for Monroe to handle.
Second-Half Surge Breaks the Game Open
After a scoreless opening half, the Raptors elevated their tempo and took control of the match in the final 45 minutes. The breakthrough came in the 62nd minute, when midfielder Marcelo Martinez-Herrero timed his run perfectly and buried a clinical finish off a sharp assist from defender Jacob Escobar, giving Montgomery College a 1–0 lead.
Increasing the pressure, the Raptors continued to push forward. In the 79th minute, forward Joshua Doffoh—who had recently entered the match—capitalized on a loose ball at the top of the box and fired home an unassisted goal, doubling the advantage to 2–0.
Montgomery College sealed the championship in the 87th minute when Ernesto Vides-Austin made an immediate impact after entering the match, scoring unassisted to push the lead to 3–0 and secure the victory.
Defense Delivers a Championship-Level Performance
While the second-half offensive surge stole the spotlight, the Raptors' defensive unit delivered one of its most complete performances of the season. Goalkeeper Avery Langford commanded his box with confidence, earning a clean sheet behind a disciplined back line anchored by Miguel Graneda-Penalva, Ethan Goldstone, and Jacob Escobar.
In the midfield, Owen Laborde, Bente Bruns, and Kenjy Vertil-Dorelus controlled possession, disrupted Monroe's attacks, and set the foundation for MC's second-half dominance. Their collective work allowed the Raptors to dictate the tempo and frustrate Monroe throughout the match.
