Bio
Patti Westenberg is the Head Coach at Montgomery College (MC), where she has led the Raptors to a stellar 59–19 (.756) record since 2023. Her tenure is highlighted by the historic 2025 NJCAA Region 20 Championship title, following a dominant season that included a 23–5 overall record and an undefeated 15–0 conference run. Under her leadership, the program has consistently ranked at the top of the NJCAA standings.
Since joining MC in 2023, Coach Westenberg has mentored 15 NJCAA All-Academic Team members and 8 NJCAA All-Region 20 selections, with many players transferring to four-year institutions to continue their careers. Before her success at Montgomery College, Patti served as the Head Coach at Frederick Community College (2018–2022). During her time with the Cougars, she was instrumental in elevating the program's competitiveness, notably leading the 2022 FCC team through a postseason run. Under her guidance, the team secured a major regional tournament upset to finish as the Region 20 Runner-Up, falling only in the championship match to her future program, Montgomery College.
In addition to her collegiate roles, Patti serves as the President of the NJCAA Region XX Coaches Association. Since 2017, she has also been the Central Region Director and 18 Central Head Coach for Metro Volleyball Club in Washington, D.C., guiding more than 31 recruits to collegiate commitments. Her extensive coaching career also includes nine seasons at Michigan Elite Volleyball Club and as an Assistant Coach for NCAA DII Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan (2009–2011).
Patti Westenberg’s coaching philosophy is built on a foundation of elite multi-sport success. At Warren Mott High School, she was a standout three-sport athlete, recognized as the 1999 Macomb County Post Player of the Year in basketball. Her track and field career was equally historic; in 2000, she achieved a quadruple qualification for the County Championships in the maximum allowed four events: Pole Vault, 300-Meter Hurdles, 400-Meter Relay, and High Jump. She also remains a part of Warren Mott history as a member of the 2-mile relay team that set the school record in 1997—a record that still stands today.
Transitioning to the volleyball court, Westenberg (maiden name Hunter) was a Metro Detroit Area, Macomb All-County Dream Team Selection 1999-2000, and NJCAA All-Region 12 player selection and Team MVP as a middle hitter at Macomb Community College. Her performance earned her a transfer to NCAA Division I Oakland University, where she concluded her playing career as a starting middle hitter. In 2003, she was honored as a member of the Mid-Continent Conference All-Tournament Team.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts in History and a Master of Arts in Secondary Education, combining her high-level athletic experience with a deep academic background in pedagogy. Patti resides in Rockville, Maryland, with her husband, Eric, and their two daughters, Charlotte and Salem. Outside of the gym, she is a youth instructor at Lifetime Fitness and a substitute teacher for MCPS. She enjoys traveling, gardening, and supporting her daughters as they begin their own volleyball journeys.
