Montgomery College Raptors baseball team head into the post-season NJCAA DII Region XX Tournament as the No. 8 seed and will face the No. 5 seed CCBC Essex away on Saturday, May 8, at 12:00 pm in the first round.
The Raptors wrapped up their regular season with their final two games of the regular season against Frederick CC. Montgomery's Chris Burger hit a leadoff home run to start the day, but his team fell short, falling 8-1 in game one. The Raptors kept battling but couldn't overcome an early defecate and dropped the second game 18-1.
After a solid start to the shortened season, the Raptors finished with a record of 8-18 of playing only in-conference opponents. Seamus Harrigan leads the team in hitting with a .400 batting average, one home run, and 7 RBIs to go with an on-base percentage of .507 and a .527 slugging percentage. Daniel Weeden follows up closely with a .350 batting average, four home runs, 18 RBIs, .550 slugging percentage, and a .400 on-base percentage. Ethan Semones rounds out the team's top three with a .347 batting average, four home runs, 17 RBIs, a .597 slugging percentage, and a .347 on-base percentage.
Freshman Julio Suero was the Raptors go-to pitcher this season with a record of 3-4 and starting in 5 games with an ERA of 4.35. In 51.2 innings pitched (second-most of any MDJCUO pitcher), Suero averaged 11.5 strikeouts per 9 innings (36 best in the NJCAA) and recording a total of 66 strikeouts on the season, third-best in the MDJUCO Conference and 23rd best in the NJCAA.
